Has anyone Xperience with BOTH MCHost and Voxtreme?

Has anyone (had) accounts with both MCHost and Voxtreme? What is your experience? Which of the 2 (I'm not interested in any other) do you prefer and why? I've read a lot about both here and have an account at one of the 2. I'd really like to hear from clients who use / have used both. Thank you!

my option was with voxtreme, mchosts and earhost. i have just sign up with mchost and its everything great!

Posted by fredofford, 07-20-2002, 11:36 PM
why i chose is because earhost close down. my options was then between mchost and voxtreme and i chose mchost because their larger operation and not likely to close down anytime soon (as earhosts did).

Thanks for your reply! It's really difficult to choose a host. And some hosts go down or have to give their clients away... MCHost looks like a big company, Voxhost seems to have fast support. Well, has onyone actually used both MCHost and Voxtreme?

Posted by Aussie Bob, 07-21-2002, 12:04 AM
You can't really go too wrong with either company. Voxtreme is a bit smaller than mchost, so you might get more personal service there. Safe money either way.

Hi I use MChost and think there service is good value for money, I wouldn't host a large client there as I regularly experience downtime, poor pop3 performance and regular so called server security updates, not as often as previously but often enough to cause some of my fussier clients panic.....I'm on the London server. I have just signed up with www.tqhosting.com, Mark there is very helpful and very prompt with email support/replies, he has an unmissable offer at the moment and would well advise you to consider this before MCH as quite frankly I feel there service could be alot better, still as I said for the money the service is relative.

The things mentioned above are the main reason why we're moving out of the old data center into a new one. Due to this data center not being able to provide our clients and us the expected network and server performance. You will notice much better performance in the new data center, where all new clients are set-up as well, once the move is completed.

TQ Hosting doesn't offer reseller plans, or do they?

Posted by Alan - Vox, 07-21-2002, 05:18 PM
He was only asking about voxtreme and mchost.

Posted by Chaps, 07-21-2002, 05:56 PM
I am currently in the same situation and leaning towards MChost...the ones I was choosing between were MChost and Voxtreme but with MChost is Canada, and Voxtreme in Ireland...and we are located in Canada...MChost seems like the logical choice unless Voxtreme has some advantage over MChost? Is there any?

Posted by Synthetic, 07-21-2002, 06:13 PM
Do they still have a Canadian office? I remember seeing the details here: http://www.mchost.com/about/index.html but the information is gone now.

Posted by sportypants, 07-21-2002, 06:19 PM
Dont suppose youd have posted that if I mentioned your company eh......hmm

Posted by sportypants, 07-21-2002, 06:21 PM
Synthetic contact Mark through his website for further info or visit http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...threadid=59834 I dont know if the offer is still on but you can ask. Hope this helps

We are incorporated in Canada and the US. Parts of our staff is located in Canada, however those are our office locations, which will be expanded into toll-free support locations in the future (planned for early 2003).

Posted by Aussie Bob, 07-21-2002, 06:42 PM
It really doesn't matter for you where their admin offices are [or where their homes are where they work out of]. Their servers would be in the USA anyways. Physical location of themselves is of little value to you. They could live next door to you and you'd still get the same level of service if you lived 10,000 miles from them.

Posted by SoftWareRevue, 07-21-2002, 06:46 PM
Well, I think I would get a different level if my next door neighbor hosted me. She's 87.

Really consider where the datacenter is located to you, big difference.

Posted by Chaps, 07-21-2002, 09:22 PM
True enough I suppose...difference being that if it was my neighbor...he had BETTER respond in less than a day...cuz if I saw him leaving with his golf clubs while my site was down...

I am having problem with my current host , thus I am now also deciding either with MChost, Voxtreme or splashhost Last edited by freehtml; 07-21-2002 at 11:17 PM.

hehe...you should trim earhost off that list...they just went under the other day. but the other 3 have a good rep here at WHT!

Posted by cyberdao, 07-21-2002, 09:34 PM
I heard good things about Splashhost, too, they just don't offer unlimited domains, which is important for me. Earhost is closing down, check the other threads here ...

Posted by freehtml, 07-21-2002, 11:17 PM
Ok, let me edit my list 1) Voxtreme 2) Mchost 3) Splash Host What about prioritycolocation?

Posted by Aussie Bob, 07-22-2002, 03:24 AM
and the number of domains on the box effects loads of the server exactly how again?? Hmmmm, you could have a server with 2,500+ simple html sites with server loads of 0.25 easy. Or you could have a server with 1 site on it with average loads of 5+.

Posted by cyberdao, 07-22-2002, 03:39 AM
I'm only hosting my own clients I do webdesign for, but some of my clients have many domains, some just used for sending mails under that domain or just a splash page and a contact form, some domains are only active for particular projects. That's the only reason why I can't use Splashhost. I think, Alan does a great job for his clients (as far as I can judge this reading the posts on WHT regularly). When you use a shared server, you never know who your neighbours are and how they affect the performance of your sites.

There's a limit - apache will crawl after so many domains (relatively of course) Just thought I would throw that one in Top advice from Samuel yet again Last edited by StevenG; 07-22-2002 at 09:36 AM.

Ubet, it really does make a difference where your reseller account is located in respect to your physical location to your provider. Response times in using the services, or adding ram, contacting noc for support tend to be a little better when you're located close to your provider.

I've become wary of out-of-country hosts after a company I used called NoLimits Network Solutions (out of the UK) disappeared without contact or warning one day. Since I have no knowledge of international law or anything, my options were limited by my inability to track down the company.

Posted by Alan - Vox, 07-22-2002, 04:15 PM
Aussie Bob, i had a customer want to host 2000 sites on one reseller account, do you want me to send them to you?

Posted by Samuel, 07-22-2002, 04:30 PM
Alan, send them to me. As long as they stay in their resource usage, no problem. Sorry you have to turn them down

Posted by Samuel, 07-22-2002, 04:59 PM
And when it comes to mchost, save your money and find another host.

Posted by Chang Lee, 07-22-2002, 07:52 PM
If MCHost is upgrading their servers that often or too regularly, that is a very very good thing! Shouldn't both you and your clients be thrilled that they actually bother to take the trouble to do so?!! I think that these updates don't result in *much* server downtime ie. any more than absolutely necessary for most web hosting companies. In several cases, there shouldn't be any down time at all. Though I don't host with MCHost anymore, I am sure that they would be upgrading their servers very responsibly so that users are hopefully least affected by the server going down as a result of the update or getting bogged up too much temporarily. Not only MCHost, but all responsible web hosting companies would be taking such precautions while updating their servers. Isn't an updated server anyday *always better and safer* than an no-so-updated one! Correct me if I am wrong in my assumption. So most probably you should inform your clients who tend to be fussy that its their benefit that the server they are on is getting regularly updated. Once they are made aware of this, they will be less fussier! Last edited by Chang Lee; 07-22-2002 at 08:19 PM.

Send them to earhost Alan. Now you know there are limits Alan. But I understand the point you are making etc and agree up to a point. It swings a little both ways.

Posted by Samuel, 07-22-2002, 09:59 PM
Chang lee, this is an assumption. Most of the server hiccups seem to be coming from the lack of the datacenter responding to mchost and basically leaving their customers, and mchost's customers high and dry, this has been shown many times on their boards.

Posted by Chang Lee, 07-23-2002, 02:51 AM
Aah okay! Not much any host can do in such a case other than get to the root of the problem which you assume to be. Yup... its best to get out their servers asap from that data center which i am told they are currently doing... or just recently may have completed doing. I get your drift now. My last post was based on the 'regularity of updates - good or bad' issue which did not take into account my awareness of repeated problems faced by a host caused by repeatedly unresolved issues at their data center.

Posted by smily, 07-25-2002, 05:55 PM
I also have a very bad experience with MChost. They look very nice but they never care about your customers and if you start using nearer to their b/w limits every month, they will start blaming you for things you never did and tease you so much that you leave them. And moving for a reseller from a host is very troublesome. About voxtreme... um ? I never used them so I should not give any good or bad opinion about them. Hope that will helpful...

I'm curious about MChost and Voxtreme. I went to their website earlier. I did not see them mention anything about backups. Do they backup your clients data? Also, Voxtreme did not mention anything about scripting / database capabilities for resellers. Does Voxtreme have it? One more thing. Do both these hosts offer an integrated shopping cart? I think I saw one on MCHosts, but it was related to CPanel, so I'm not sure if that cart feature is disabled or not. Thanks!

Posted by Aussie Bob, 07-25-2002, 09:28 PM
Most use a spare drive on the server and CPanel does a nightly backup to .../backup etc.... It's there in CPanel, ready to be installed by yourself etc.

Thanks for the info, Aussie Bob.

I am with Voxtreme, and I like the idea of working with an European company. Even though their server is in USA. Sorry, this is politics.

Posted by cyberdao, 09-04-2002, 10:53 PM
I'm now with Voxtreme for 5 weeks and everything is just great: - server performance - cpanel options and scripts - and first of all GREAT SUPPORT
