i have a collection of international html documents watching the source code some are saved like this: but others like this Is there any way to get the second ones to be displayed properly? preferably even without converting them? Thanks a lot!

Check out iconv tool for linux.

thanks, but is there a way just to display texts looking like these symbols: íäáåãéú (strangely encoded hebrew) so that it becomes displayed as such letters instead:אב הם (proper hebrew letters) and without converting anything on the serverside? i dont know what is the difference actually and if a simple javascript in the files could do it with out converting them i added but didnt make a difference i dont think the documents were saved in different encoding. thank you again Last edited by joonas; 10-31-2012 at 07:45 PM.
