Problems with NetSol. Help/Suggestions Needed

Posted by David@Digisurge, 09-12-2001, 10:22 PM
I have a client with a domain registered with Network Solutions. My domain and nameservers were registered with 000domains.com . My client has tried to switch his nameservers to mine (ns1.digisurge.com and ns2.digisurge.com). He says he gets an error when trying to do it. The only reason I can think of is because my namservers are not registered with NetSol. However I didn't think this would be a problem. I tried registering the nameserver with NetSol's "New Host Template" but that didn't work. I emailed their support. This is their response: With regard to your inquiry, we regret that we are unable to assist you as the domain name you asked about was not registered through Network Solutions. Therefore, it doesn't have a record in our WHOIS database and cannot be modified through our services. Our WHOIS database only contains records for domain names registered by us. I called their support line. The person on the phone didn't really know what I was talking about so that wasn't much help. Anyone else have this problem before? What can I do besides making my client switch registrars?

Call them back up and don't let them get rid of you until they add your nameservers to their database. Tell them others have had to have it done as well and you are not being forced into switching your domain to them because of their faulty system. As a note, same goes for my nameservers. Haven't called them up yet, but you can bet that when I do, if they pull that, hades is going to be coming out of their end of the phone.

I'll be sure to keep this thread updated. Is there anyone here that hasn't been inconvienced by NetSol at least one time or another?

I'm currently batteling with NSI, so I can understand what you are going through. I would not trust anything they say on the phone. I had a simple change to a contact record. I have called 3 times and each time they tell me the change is in process and it will be visible in 24 - 48 hours. Yesterday when I called I asked the support person to to escalate the problem. In my case it was just a different fax number and some people to send the fax to. I'm trying to do exactly the same thing that you are . I'm just trying to get my contact information up-to-date so I can transfer the domian to 000domains.com. It's a total nightmare. Frank

Hi David, This is what you must do if you don't have a Hosts ID registered with NSI. The adminstrative contact email must be valid and you don't need any Hosts ID to update the nameservers. The following steps to take: 1) On top of the Blue Benu, click on "MAKE CHANGES" -> go to "advance Users" -> Forms -> click link "service agreement" 2)Change the name servers accordingly, then submit it and it will auto email the records to you where you must confirm and email back to NSI. 3)NSI will send you an email to confirm changes to you records(service agreement), just confirm it and they will later send you another email informing that the changes has been completed. 4) Do a whois to confirm that the nameservers have been updated, then wait for 24-48 hours for propagation time before the domain name will point to the mentioned server. Hope this helps

Thank you Cactus, I'll try your suggestions!

Well, Cacuts your suggestion didn't work because my domain is registered with NSI. However I did call them one more time. This time they added the nameservers no questions asked ! They said they should appear within 24 hours, time will tell. I guess it just depends on who you get on the phone.

Hi David, Don't worry, I have done it many times but you must make/update any changes if you don't have a Host ID registered with NSI, then any changes MUST be done on the "service agreement" Form and not on any other Forms(Hehe, too many forms to complicate matters and deter/discourage anyone) I noted that you are using 000domains.com, Please do a nameservers change first, when it's updated, then go to 000domains.com -> Transfer Domain -> completed the details and you will shortly receive an email from "Tucows" where the mail will be sent to the " Admin's contact email records in NSI database) just confirm/acknowledge the transfer. After a few days, NSI will send you an email, just reply to the transfer BUT in the Transfer Form, you have to copy and paste the NIC Handle and copy it to your subject line e.g. "TRANSFER=YES" Send it to NSI to acknowledge the transfer and all should work okay with a week. during the transfer your domain/website will function normal without any interuption. Good luck

David, In normal cases, the DNS change at NSI will need 24-48 hours to propagate throughout the Internet before your domain name will be detected when someone visits your site, so before that, if your Host have terminated/suspend your account, then you have to wait until the DNS resolve to the new Host's server. It takes time, so please be patient and everything will work out fine. Trust me if you follow what I have explained. regards, cactus
