httpme or voxtreme

Posted by slowmail, 08-29-2002, 03:29 PM
Hi there, Am very new to the whole scheme of things, and would like to get started on a small reseller account. Having looked at here and there, and this and that, I've basically narrowed down my choice to one of two providers. Httpme.com and voxtreme. Have read most of the comments on either, and explored both their websites as well as emailed them questions that were all promptly answered. Would like to now turn to the collective intelligence of this group to make an informed choice. All things being equal, which provider will you choose? I've distilled the differnce between them to the following: httpme $20, 1G Storage+10G Traffic No SSH. Have said they will *not* get involved with the uploading of customers files (in the context of transferring a *very* large db in or out of the system). Cheaper as the plans get larger - more bang for buck (storage and traffic wise) Community people are friendly and helpful 2 ip addresses. Reliable services; I like how Aussie Bob posts weekly uptimes as reported by his port monitoring thingo. =P voxtreme $25, 1G Storage+12G Traffic SSH upon request (and justification) More costly compared to httpme on larger plans (storage & traffic) Community not quite as friendly/helpful as httpme (but still are very!) 4 ip addresses with basic plan. I'm under the impression they're bigger and have been int he business for a longer period of time (cannot confirm this as a fact) - have more servers that appear to be faster, or on faster networks on the net. (?) These are my impressions; feel free to correct if I'm mistaken. Which would *you* choose as your webhost? PMs welcomed. =P

hi, either one shud be ok. i use voxtreme.com and services are great. support is super fast. Thats why i'm adding my accounts there. The community should be ok, as last time i visited, it was ok they have network info page to show all server info. Though their apperance of the website may not be very impressive. aussie bob is also nice guy as it seems from WHT his presence is there in almost every thread, doing community services so u have to do more research, Search , contact the ppl in both places also apart from listening to what we say good luck!

You can't go wrong with either. both are located in NAC and both have excellent servers, and both provide excellent support.

Personal experience would make me give a big thumbs up for voxtreme.

and VDI and Colo4Dallas.

The best experience I have had so far with hosting, support and cPanel/WHM has been with HTTPme.COM. They have a great business plan, very reliable and a great support team. They won't move or participate in moving your current customers, but don't worry, they will be with you "side by side" answering all your questions immediately. The COMmunity is very well set and all that participate, do so with the best of intensions, very friendly and professional. When you post a problem, they already now about the problem and have been working on it, most likely right after your post its all taken care of! I recommend very highly HTTPme.COM

and HE.net too. [making updates to the site to reflect this today]

Posted by Choppy, 08-29-2002, 08:55 PM
Aussie B i heard he.net are a bunch of spam supporters? THis is not in order to degrade your company though this is what i have been reading lately in a few places and also on this forum. Just making sure that everyone understands that this is about he.net not httpme. Regards Phillip

I am with Voxtreme, but also read good reports on httpme.com here at WHT. As mentioned before, you probably can't go wrong with either of them. The Voxtreme support is really great (!), so is the server performance. The forum is not that active, but there might be a reason for it: There are just no major problems. But what I like about the forums is that you get good answers on your questions and also, the staff helps you out a lot. BIG Thumbs up for Voxtreme!

Posted by Aussie Bob, 08-29-2002, 09:54 PM
I have read some threads of that nature but I seriously doubt whether they support spam as per your above comments.

Posted by joshp, 08-29-2002, 10:43 PM
my vote would have to go for HTTPme.com The support is excellent and they are very friendly and responsive!

Posted by pgrote, 08-29-2002, 11:21 PM
Voxtreme rocks. Solid uptime, great service. Responsive staff who don't laugh at you. Seriously. They don't.

Posted by Choppy, 08-29-2002, 11:36 PM
Fare enough BOB! AS i said i have not used them but its true about the spam - Check some of your own spam (That you get) maybe you would find some in there leading back to He.net? Anyway, its just from what i read i got no backup to prove that they support it but sometimes one would think if they ignore it, its permited! No more to say on the topic. Regards Phillip

Thanks everyone for your kind input. Have yet to come to a decision on it at this point, and will probably just go sleep it off and see what I think again in the morning. =) Question I have is: currently, i've registered the .com and .net of mydomain which I'll be operating from. Is it considered bad form if I registered one with Voxtreme and the other w httpme and mess with the accounts for a bit, banking on their 30 day money back guarantee to drop one at the end of say 3 weeks?

Posted by zoli, 08-30-2002, 02:48 AM
Just try httpme.com, you won't be disappointed. I haven't used them but I have heard a lot of good things about them.

Posted by edude, 08-30-2002, 03:29 AM
Well t his is a hard one. Both Matt and Bob are members of this community with a reputable standing, put them both in a hat and pull one out.. you wont go wrong with either one, maybe if you go with httpme aussiebob will give you a ride in his yacht.

Posted by Aussie Bob, 08-30-2002, 04:35 AM
hehe. Where's this "yacht"? Have you been messing with your Temporal device again?

Posted by nonstop, 08-30-2002, 06:06 AM
Wao he.net! I am looking for a good server located in the West Coast for better access from Japan. Please give me a IP address for ping, a file for FTP test, and the current server spec.

If you'd be expecting a refund, I'd call that very poor form. Lats...

Forum rules dictate engaging you like this. You know where to contact me.

Posted by slowmail, 08-30-2002, 10:35 AM
Hello one and all, it's me again. =) After a good afternoon nap, I woke up refreshed, re-read the forum and the replies I got and made my decision. Just thought to post it here for anyone else who does a search in future. Having narrowed my choice down to 2 providers, both in very good standing, I was sure I wouldn't go wrong with either of them. As it turns out, I got good feedback on both, and as it turns out, the majority strongly supported Voxtreme. As such, I decided to go with httpme instead. Hard to explain why I did; it goes something along the lines of they were both great, but I'd like to right now give my business to httpme and if they're as good as the not-quite-as-many-as-voxtreme customers say they are, then I'll be one more to support them when someone else asks in future. Confused yet? Don't worry about it. =P I just felt since they're both just as Well,

Aussie Bob at httpme.com is a great guy and runs a good business, although I can't say you made the right choice I am sure you will be happy with him.

Thanks Tony.

dnforum.com is down for Aussie Bob working from his laptop on the back of my 60ft ocean cruiser. (ok just kidding about the boat, but the site's really down from here.) http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...umber=3bottom# You're right Bob -- there is no yacht ...... it's a damn OCEAN CRUISER !! ..And to slowmail , enjoy your new host .

Posted by Aussie Bob, 08-31-2002, 01:49 AM
It depends which timeline you're referring to. If you're referring to the Aussie Bob in the year 2013, then I own a 60ft Riverara Ocean Cruiser where I oversee the Worldwide operations of HTTPme.COMmunity. If you're referring to the Aussie Bob of 2002, then you mean the dingy in the shed.

The issue here is not WHAT you get for your 20bucks but WHO you get for your 20bucks! If you choose HTTPme you will get, a caring considerate community of individual webhosts, that will be all too pleased to assist you in whatever you need in the way of help. You just have to visit their Home Base Forum/Website to understand this. You will also receive at no extra cost: Aussie Bob. Remarkable..True democracy at work!

I like httpme too. I like their business model. I like their COMmunity. I like that they have servers at more than one Data center. Bob will let you have one account on one server at the NOC, and another account at another server at the he.net if you wish. Their servers are nice and 'roomy'. They don't let one get 'full' before getting another server online. They may not move your sites for you, but you can do what I did: Sign up Move your stuff Test it Then change the nameservers By the time they propagate, no one will experience a minute of downtime. I moved from a 'highly recomended' host to httpme, and can't believe how much nicer it is at httpme.

Another Big Thumb up for Bob He is one big nice and extremley helpful guy . He actually offered help to someone whom he doesn't know and not even his customer . I am just a total stranger to him but without a second question he offered his help to me . So from this end , I do strongly believe he can be a good hosting provider . Give his hosting services a try and I think you will enjoy it . Here's to Bob , thanks for your help given to a total stranger like me .

Posted by ATST, 09-02-2002, 08:14 PM
Nobody's a total stranger at httpme for very long. Totally strange, maybe. Very strange having such good service.

Posted by Aussie Bob, 09-02-2002, 09:33 PM
Thanks. I honestly can't remember what you're talking about, but I hope whatever it was, you got it worked out.

Posted by RH Robert, 09-02-2002, 11:42 PM
I contacted them via email regarding some of the threads on this as I am thinking of getting our next server there. I had an email from Mike Leber of Hurricane Electric within an hour on the weekend. he also followed up with a phone call! I told him I would probably use some of the info he sent to let people know the HE.net stand on spam and here it is. Pertinent from HE: I could post the whole letter but it is fairly long. If anyone really wants to see it, I will.

Posted by AussieHosts, 09-03-2002, 02:28 AM
Well there you go Bob...given your comments about Rackshack and them not being worth considering, I assume you're going to give HE the flick now and find someone a bit more accomodating...? Cheers Gary

Posted by Aussie Bob, 09-03-2002, 02:48 AM
Yes. It looks like I'll need to move my spamming operation off the HE.net network. Any spare space on some of your RS servers, Gary?

Posted by AussieHosts, 09-03-2002, 03:01 AM
Not a chance mate. What would you need all the extra speed for? Gary

Posted by Aussie Bob, 09-03-2002, 03:03 AM
Well, I just bought that 50 MILLION email addresses software package and your servers seemed the logical place to process them initially.

Posted by AussieHosts, 09-03-2002, 03:07 AM
Bought? I thought you were selling it under the counter at spambattle.com...? Gary

Posted by Aussie Bob, 09-03-2002, 03:10 AM
I hope most folks know that we're just JOKING here. hehe.

Posted by AussieHosts, 09-03-2002, 03:13 AM
Nobody takes us seriously mate... Gary

Posted by Aussie Bob, 09-03-2002, 03:20 AM
Probably a good thing too.

Posted by Trent, 09-03-2002, 04:20 AM
