Urgent problem: too much traffic, how to stop it?

Hi, i've a vps with iptables, but i've too much traffic (RX), there are too many packets received from random ports on both upt and tcp. Today in just 14 hours i've 2.8 gib of traffic, without any connection for web, email, etc (i've stopped all the services). How can i stop this? it's going to burn all my monthly traffic

Have your datacenter pull the plug or block the traffic at the switch until the DOS resides.

I believe it would be common sense to use a firewall and only allow HTTP and SSH ports.

That rate of traffic is quite low. While you would be able to block traffic out and in, they would still use your traffic quota. To prevent that, you need to ask your datacenter to help and block those at the router level - perhaps even at their edge. Most datacenters would be willing to do it - generally free , if you ask nicely and explain what you want done.

That approximates to 6GB a day and 180GB a week. You have a server less than 200GB bandwidth allocation?

it's what i did, iptables with permission for the 80 and 22 (for now, i'll change it the next week) port Ok, i'll try to ask 180 gib a month... btw, i've just 200 gib of monthly transfer...maybe in the future i'll upgrade it with a unmetered transfer on a shared bandwidth, but for now 200 gib should be ok....without these connections
