favicon question

Not sure if this is the right forum, if not apologies.... When a client saves a link to a web page on his desktop, he wants the favicon to display as the link graphic. Any ideas? I tried: [InternetShortcut] URL=http://xxx-ware.com/ favicon=http://xxx-ware.com/favicon.ico This does not work. Any help is appreciated!

The URL, http://xxx-ware.com/favicon.ico, leads to Godaddy parking page. For the favicon to display, you will have to upload it onto your public_html directory.

Sorry, you misunderstood. The customer wants it to appear on his desktop icon for the shortcut he has there. No public_html directory involved, altho maybe a /desktop folder??

I don't believe this is possible, shortcuts usually contain the icon of the application they are opening (IE, FF ect) Have you seen this anywhere else?

Favicons are typically only a single image, 16x16 and 16 colors. In order to use this for the desktop, you need to include other sizes in the .ico file as well, which may or may not work depending on browser. See here: http://www.favicon.com/best.html

Actually, if the customer is running Windows XP, they can create the shortcut on there desktop. Ones the shortcut is on the desktop, simply right click it and select properties. Then click the change icon button to browse for a different Icon. But, the image you upload must be bigger than your standard Favicon. I just did ran this procedure to ensure that it works. Unless, my version of Windows is somewhat different from others, it should work.

Thanks for the suggestions. The idea about changing the icon was where I was heading also, but the client insists he did it another way. I doubt he is going to get what he wants!
