DNS/Proxy Cache

Posted by linux2man, 07-15-2007, 10:57 AM
Hello; I made changes in httpd.conf to redirect website to another website; after 15min I removed redirect but until now when client request website they are redirecting. I'm sure I remove redirect. we are locating in UAE, UAE has transparent proxy for all Internet connections so I think the problem in proxy cache, How i can confirm it? then can I avoid it ?! also when I put dot "." at the end of link site working without redirect otherwise it's not working.

hi Try the "clear DNS cache" option on the proxy/your PC, and see if that works

try to ask the client to press CTRL+F5 to force refresh

I've handled similar issues in the UAE before. They use a caching proxy server. Last I dealt with this issue (early 2006) there was no way to force the proxy cache to update. We tried forcing no cache pragmas on the server but that did not help. We found that after about 24 hours the cache would refresh.

My last experience of ISP proxy servers was a few years back, but just the same - nothing you could do at the server would make a difference because when the proxy got a cache hit it didn't even contact the server. The only way to force a refresh was from the client side using Netscape not MSIE (even Ctrl-F5 didn't work with IE for some reason). So ask the client to install Firefox - it still may not work but at least he'll have a better browser

If you are using windows system try ipconfig /flushdns . it will clear the DNS cache

Dear linux2man, I believe you need to try using external proxy server to confirm this. Best Regards.
