Is there a notepad type program that displays php code color format?

Hello, is there a (free script would be great) that acts like a notepad except that it displays php coding in Dreamweaver style colors so that it is easier to read? I ask since while working I sometimes copy code to notepad before I apply it to another file and it would be great if it were color coded. Thanks!

Notepad++ is excellent.

notepad++ is a good application, but many a times it tends to break. Use Editplus, one of the best text editors which supports so many different languages.

Komodo Edit. Free, does syntax highlighting and code completion for PHP, Python, Perl, Javascript, etc. Runs on Windows, Mac and Linux.

My advice is invest on Ultraedit for windows. You can try it for free and buying it is just a few bucks for a professional text/source editing tool. I can't live without its tabbed files, Find In Files and Replace in Files and advanced configuration.

Notepad++ has been my favorite for over a year now. However Ultraedit is also nice and worth trying out to see what suits you best.

GVim. It takes some getting used to but is a godly editor once you learn all it's tricks.

I use notepad++ on windows and kate on linux (kde). Both are free. Textmate on the mac is popular, but you have to pay for it. Old favorites by many developers are vim/emacs - though I don't see the appeal.
