Adding sub-domains on dedicated server

Posted by mickscool, 02-13-2011, 11:16 AM
Hi Friends, I own a dedicated server from olm.net. Presently when I add a new domain on my server , I point them to olm nameservers (ns1.fastdns.net, ns2.fastdns.net) and then ask olm to add the entries. Now, I am trying to add sub-domains using cpanel but it's not working. When I add a new sub-domain, it shows the following entry - Name - www.blogs.mysite.com Type - A Record - My server I.P Not sure why "www" gets appended to the front. The subdomain gets added but when i try to access it e.g. http://blogs.mysite.com it fails to resolve it. So is this a DNS issue? Does that mean I have to host my own DNS entries? How can I do that? Any help or pointers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ask olm guys to add A entry for the subdomain.. or you can set private nameserver for your domain so that dns can be managed from your cpanel itself

Thanks, I don't want to email the OLM guys everytime I add a sub-domain, so I thought of adding the nameserver on my dedicated server. I went to WHM but I just have 1 I.P address, so I can only set ns1.mysite.com and not ns2? Can I use some third party name-servers like google or something and manage it myself? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
